Carnival of Rust

Image via Wikipedia

Carnival of Rust is a beautiful and even a little scary song from a great band called Poets of the Fall. The song is about differences in a relationship, at least that’s my interpretation of it. The acoustic guitar riff is one of my favourite. If you like this song you should really look into the Poets of the Fall. They are a great band and they also perform very well on stage. Maybe try for your own interpretation of this song;

D’ you breath the name of your saviour in your hour of need,
n’ taste the blame if the flavor should remind you of greed,
Of implication, insinuation and ill will, till’ you cannot lie still,
In all this turmoil, before red cape and foil come closing in for a kill

Come feed the rain
Cos I’m thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust

Yeah feed the rain
Cos without your love my life ain’t nothing but this carnival of rust

It’s all a game, avoiding failure, when true colors will bleed
All in the name of misbehavior and the things we don’t need
I lust for after no disaster can touch us anymore
And more than ever, I hope to never fall, where enough is not the same it was before

Come feed the rain…

Don’t walk away, don’t walk away, oh, when the world is burning
Don’t walk away, don’t walk away, oh, when the heart is yearning

Rufus Wainwright en un concierto en Madrid en ...

Image via Wikipedia

I’m sure you know this one but have you heard of this version ? Here Rufus Wainwright does a cover of Hallelujah live at Fillmore. He is a complete drunkard in this video but man he can sing from his heart. This song is an amazingly emotional composition. I know I said that I’ll give you some new music but this song is worth listening to over and over again. So enjoy, and I’m sure you know how the lyrics go but I’ll still post them here …

I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty
in the moonlight
overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne,
she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe I’ve been here before
I know this room, I’ve walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you’d let me know
What’s real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
Remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there’s a God above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It’s not a cry you can hear at night
It’s not somebody who’s seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Amy Winehouse performing in Berlin in 2007

Image via Wikipedia

The best song from her best album Back to Black‘. It’s sad how talented and unique musicians fall into a drugs addiction and get overwhelmed by fortune and fame. This post will be here just to remind us how talented Amy Winehouse really was. The lyrics;

He left no time to regret
Kept his dick wet
With his same old safe bet
Me and my head high
And my tears dry
Get on without my guy
You went back to what you knew
So far removed from all that we went through
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I’ll go back to black

We only said good-bye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to…..

I go back to us

I love you much
It’s not enough
You love blow and I love puff
And life is like a pipe
And I’m a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside

We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to

Black, black, black, black, black, black, black,
I go back to
I go back to

We only said good-bye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to

We only said good-bye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to black

Crazy World

This one is an Irish rock classic from an obviously Irish rock band called Aslan, not U2 ;) Aslan didn’t make it as far as U2 although they had the potential to. This song is a nice rock tune although it’s not as much focused on distorted guitars and furious drumming it still rocks. The vocals are great, you can hear the Irish blood in this song.  So the lyrics are;

How can i protect you in this crazy world
Its alright yeah
Its alright

I have fallen down so many times
Dunno why dunno where
Dont care less its all the same

I have travelled through so many towns
Dunno why dunno where
Dont care less its all the same

How can i protect you in this crazy world
Its alright yeah
Its alright

Can ya hear the sound of nothing nothing
Nothings right nothings wrong
Dont care less its all the same
Love is blind love is real
Dont ya know that love is what you feel
Its alright yeah Its alright

How can i protect you in this crazy world
Its alright yeah
Its alright

When the talking is over
All the crowd has gone
Nothing left i can do
Am i ever gonna get through to you
Its alright

How can i protect you in this crazy world
Its alright yeah
Its alright

How can i protect when all the crowd have gone
Now your partys over and all this world is wrong
Its alright yeah
Its alright

How can i protect you in this crazy world
Its alright yeah
Its alright

Heavy Metal Thunder (Saxon album)

Image via Wikipedia

One of the best Heavy Metal bands on planet earth, the great British ’Saxon’ with it’s old time classic the ‘Crusader’. What a name and theme for a Heavy Metal song. The awesome guitar riff and superb drumming really make the song a pleasure to listen to especially with amazing British vocals, in this song Biff Byford has a strong and powerful but also melodic voice which is an advantage to those who hate growling vocals in heavy metal, I only like them occasionally in a song. Also the evil voice was so cool back then and I think it still is. Anyway here are the lyrics;

Crusader, crusader, please take me with you
The battle lies far to the east
Crusader, crusader, don’t leave me alone
I want to ride out on your quest

I’m waiting, I’m waiting, to stand by your side
To fight with you over the sea
They’re calling, they’re calling, I have to be there
The holy land has to be free

Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might

Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
We’re marching, we’re marching, to a land far from home
No one can say who’ll return
For Christendom’s sake, we’ll take our revenge
On the pagans from out of the east
We Christians are coming, with swords held on high
United by faith and the cause
The Saracen heathen will soon taste our steel
Our standards will rise ‘cross the land

Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might

Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
To battle, to battle, the Saracen hordes
We follow the warrior king
Onward, ride onward, into the fight
We carry the sign of the cross
Warlords of England, Knights of the Realm
Spilling their blood in the sand
Crusader, crusader, the legend is born
The future will honour your deeds

Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
(Come Crusader let battle commence)

Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm-

L.A. Noire [868]

Hello World ;)

This song is a nice jazz tune sang by a pop artist Claudia Brucken, she was asked to sing three songs in the L.A. Noire game as a soundtrack. This song was one of them and in my opinion it was the best one. It’s called ‘(I always kill) the Things I Love’. The jazzy rhythm combined with great and emotional vocals from Claudia Brucken give us a nice catchy jazz song maybe not an odyssey as I mentioned in the title but still a very soulful song. The lyrics go like this;

I love the chase, ’til the minute I win it
A beautiful face ’til there’s love for me in it
Give me your heart and baby I’ll bill it
’cause I always kill the things I love

Some folk would die for the sake of another
Lay down their life for their sisters and brothers
For me sacrifice is something quite other
’cause I love to kill the things I love

The look in your eyes will turn to surprise
As you feel the pain and you realize
The one hurting you is somebody who
Once said “I love you”

Somebody we’ll pay back all we’ve borrowed
What we loved today we’ll lose tomorrow
But I won’t need to wait for my share of sorrow
Because I always kill the things I love

But I won’t need to wait for my share of sorrow
Because I already killed the things I love

Enjoy …..

Cover of "Riding With the King"

Cover of Riding With the King

This one is a classic jam of two blues kings, Eric Clapton with B.B. King himself. Together they’ve recorded and album proudly titled ‘Riding With The King‘. An eight-and-a-half minute eargasm is basically what this song is all about. ‘Three O’Clock Blues’ is a moody jam with some great raspy and clear vocals from both Eric and B.B. King. The lyrics are simple but powerful;

Well now it’s three o’clock in the morning
And I can’t even close my eyes
Three o’clock in the morning baby
And I can’t even close my eyes
Can’t find my baby
And I can’t be satisfied

I’ve looked around me
And my baby she can’t be found
I’ve looked all around me, people
And my baby she can’t be found
You know if I don’t find my baby
I’m going down to the Golden Ground
That’s where the men hang out

Goodbye, everybody
I believe this is the end
Oh goodbye everybody
I believe this is the end
I want you to tell my baby
Tell her please please forgive me
Forgive me for my sins

As always enjoy listening and till the next time ;)

The Black Crowes - $hake your money maker 1990

If you’ve ever heard of an american rock band who call themselves “The Black Crowes” you must have heard of a song by them called ‘She Talks to Angeles’. It’s a great tune, well sang and well played with the guitar in open E tuning and nice drumming to it. The lyrics are really awesome, if you’ll understand them they might even touch you personally. Also it’s  a great song to sing and play on guitar. So the “really awesome” lyrics go like this;

She never mentions the world addiction
In certain company
Yes, she’ll tell you she’s an orphan
After you meet her family

She paints her eyes as black as night now,
Pulls those shades down tight
Yes, she gives a smile when the pain comes,
The pain gonna make everything alright

Says, she talks to angels,
They call her out by her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name

She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes, the hair is from a little boy,
And the cross is someone she has not met, not yet

Says she talks to angels,
Says they all know her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name

She don’t know no lover,
None that I ever seen,
And to her that ain’t nothing
But to me, It means, means everything.

She paints those eyes as black as night now
She pulls those shades down tight
Oh yeah, there a smile when the pain comes,
The pain gonna make everything alright, alright yeah

She talks to angels,
Says they call her out her name
Oh yeah-eah-eah, angels
Call her out by her name
Oh-ooh-oh-oh, angels
They call her out by her name
Oh-oh, She talks to angels
They call her out
Yeah-eah-eah, call her out
Don’t you know that they call her out by her name?

Greetings ;)

Today’s song will be a unique and original song created as a soundtrack for one of the best games I’ve ever played; Red Dead Redemption and the song is called Far Away written by Jose González. In the game this song is played when the main character first enters mexico. It’s a truly epic moment in the game when you ride on your horse with that song in the background, since I’ve heard this song I couldn’t stop listening to it. The lyrics go like this …

Step infront of a runaway train just to feel alive again.
Pushing forward through the night, aching just to blow aside.

It’s so far, so far away.
It’s so far, so far away.

Cold wind blows into the skin.
Can’t believe the state you’re in.

It’s so far, so far away.
It’s so far, so far away.

Who are you trying to? impress, steadily creating a mess?

Step in front of a runaway train, just to feel alive again.
Pushing forward through the night, aching just blow aside.

Aching just to blow aside, aching just to blow aside…

Step in front of a runaway train, just to feel alive again.
Pushing forward through the night, aching just blow aside.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the listening, till the next time ;)
